Important Announcement: SongWritingFever.com will be shutting down all user-interactive pages effective as of Saturday 13 September 2014. We are very sorry about this. We will be working very hard to bring it back as soon as we can in a much better shape than it is now. What this means is that you will not be able to submit or view lyrics, upload or download songs, view other members profiles, sign up or sign in, or post to the forum. Again, we are terribly sorry about this and we hope that we can bring all those functions and more back soon.

Hello everyone,

I have truely found something I love! I woke up one day with lyrics to country songs just pouring out of my head! I couldn't write them down fast enough! Which is very strange since I'm hearing impaired, have never really listened to country, and I cant make out lyrics to most songs (just melodies). So, why this happened, I don't know. But I do know I feel wonderful writing down these lyrics....so, I'm going to go with my heart and keep writing. I'm sure this is a great place to start, everyone sounds so knowledgeable about the music industry. Do I need to copyright every song first before I can submit them? If so, does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do that?
Thanks!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to Songwriting Fever. It is really great that you have found this website and I hope you'll find our community useful.

Regarding copyright, I think you do not need to copyright your songs before you submit them since it is very unlikely that someone will "steal" them. Just publishing them here constitutes what some people call "poor man's copyright": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poor_man's_copyright

Also, note that only members can view your lyrics.

However, best practice is to register your work in the US copyright office (http://www.copyright.gov/). This is the only thing that can stand-up in US courts I guess.

Please note that I am not a lawyer and not a US citizen, so the information I gave are generally for information purpose.

Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards,
Mahmoud
