That was then and this is now

There's no sense looking back
Because it only brings me down.
You used to be my girl
But that was then and this is now.

I still miss the way you'd kiss me;
The scent of your perfume;
The way it used to turn you on
when I would sing to you.
When I walked in a room with you
I would feel so proud
But honey that was then
And this is now.

A glance across a crowded room;
I see your face and memories bloom.
We'd talk, we'd kiss, and we'd love all night
The way young lovers do.

Your new guy thinks the world of you.
He always treats you right
Not just when he's making up
For the latest fight.
He's everything I should have been.
He never lets you down.
If I had been more like him
You'd still love me now.

There's no sense looking back
Because it only brings me down.
You used to be my girl
But that was then and this is now.

There's no fool like the fool I've been
But that's too late to change.
What's done is done the die is cast
And I'm the one to blame.
If I knew then what I know now
I wouldn't be here alone
But you can't turn back the hands of time
when the past is set in stone.

There's no sense looking back
Because it only brings me down.
You used to be my girl
But that was then and this is now.

Got my primary music collaborator working on it. You'd always like to think there's a shot.
