Hey Folks!

Liking the new forum system going on here. Having a forum unlocks new avenues for songwriters to delve into, so kudos to you Mahmoud!

I though I'd post up a topic in which I enjoy discussing, and that's the actual songwriting process. As much as we budding artists enjoy the sounds, visuals or overall completeness of the final product, it's the process in which collaboration undertakes which is something that I enjoy and appreciate very much.

The times we spend sitting at bus depots, on trains, in rooms, in trees, in cafe's, on planes etc, racking our brains, trying to find the right word that rhymes with 'orange' or 'gratitude', or piecing together a guitar riff, that sounds too urban, and not enough country, or even the process of which putting our stuff up on the site, hoping that someone across the world, or street, will put the finishing touches to. This time, instead of being ignored, is something that needs to be appreciated.

The process of putting the whole song project together challenges us, and provides us with the opportunity to risk and discover what could of, should of or would of, or will be...

My point, I'm guessing, is to look beyond the limitations, and not to ham just any old rubbish sentence together for the sake of finishing a tune, but to continue to search constantly, and challenge yourself, appreciate getting headaches over rhyme/word/instrument sounding a bit off, because you can look back, and see where your growth began, and continue to do so from then on.

Not trying to sound like an afterschool special, but that's whats on my mind.

Cheers!

Hi Lawrence,

Thanks a lot for the post..

I agree with your thoughts here. I like to think of songwriting the same I look at anything else in life: Songwriting needs practice. If songwriters don't spend time racking their brains for the right tune or for the right word, they will never become songwriters!

All the best with your songwriting man

Regards,
Mahmoud
