Important Announcement: SongWritingFever.com will be shutting down all user-interactive pages effective as of Saturday 13 September 2014. We are very sorry about this. We will be working very hard to bring it back as soon as we can in a much better shape than it is now. What this means is that you will not be able to submit or view lyrics, upload or download songs, view other members profiles, sign up or sign in, or post to the forum. Again, we are terribly sorry about this and we hope that we can bring all those functions and more back soon.

Hey everyone,

I'm Brandon. I am 20, almost 21, and I am about to be a senior in college. I have always enjoyed writing. I love music, but I can never seem to finish a song. I have always started one, but never found the words to finished them, so I gave up. Since I am getting closer to graduating, I want to try to learn to finish a song. I hope to meet some cool people who share the same passions/ideas that I have.

Brandon - I'm starting to look around lately and what I see is ecouraging...at least for me it is. It seems there are too many stratagies floating around out there, mostly the entire lot filled with people who use entirely too much freedom when defining their opinion of what a song actually consists of.

You mention that you never finish writing your song. First, you must have your defiinition squared away - you need to know what a song is. Mostly, people who believe they are song writer's are merely writing fast meter poetry or if the ryhmes are sparse - then they are actually writing prose which has a particular flow - so even reading the piece out loud, it seems to have a flow and a decent movement but generally, these forms of expression rarely if ever contain a great hook.

Most songs are substantiated by, hook, melody, and meaningful, colorful or dancable lyrics.

I suggest you look first for a melody line - see if your unfinished words can fit within a structure of imagined or audable sounds - sing it.

If you can find that melody easily, can sing or hum it, then, you have the makings of a song, my friend. If not, you have a poem. Fairly simple to discern.

\All ryhmes do not make good songs and vice a versa.

Write what you sing, tap your foot, bang on something to keep time and go for it.

Fondly,

Brian Murphy
