How do I get through to you?

Hi
I am very new to the website and am amazed at all the talent out there. I have been writing lyrics for ages but never shown them to anyone. I have posted a few in my profile here but what I want to know is - What is the best way to get feedback from all you other great writers and musicians. Is it a matter of waiting to see if anyone checks out my profile? I put a post on the Introduction Forum.
Or should I post individual lyrics on this forum as some people obviously do?
What I really want is feedback, even if it's just to say they're not really what anyone is looking for. As someone who writes poetry as well, I know that a good poem does not make a good song lyric (not that my poems are that good either but they will remain private!). My lyrics are pretty traditional but then again I'm no spring chicken.
So if anyone has the time to comment I would be very grateful. I'll never stop writing but I really don't want to waste everyone here's time.
Thanks
Andrew
