I am just learning guitar in the hopes of getting better at songwriting and getting to the point I can write the music.

I am a singer and I write lyrics and usually have an idea of the tune. I am hoping to get inspired seeing all the great stuff you are writing.

Hey Everyone

I am a singer/ songwriter and have been writing/ singing since I was a child and only recently discovered how to apply music to my lyrics without knowledge of playing any instruments, I can't even read music. I use virtual instruments, rhythm guitar, bass, drums, Lead guitar etc. JAMSTUDIO.com So the "BAND" you hear in my songs was created by me (all original too) on JAMSTUDIO, I then I record, arrange, and produce all on my laptop.

Well a couple weeks ago I got a call from a woman in Hollywood requesting a CD of my music, and then I received a "contract" in the mail from some online music company asking for re-distribution and mastering rights of one of my songs. I guess they thought that they could make money off of it, I would get 20% of a .99 sale. I didn't sign....however, I did frame it. : ) And I did send in the requested CD out of curiousity.

But all my music is copyrighted I guess that service comes with buying a membership at jamstudio.

I am currently in a band (First band ever) writing and signing my songs, even if it goes no where, I am having a blast.

Have fun

Johnny,

Those types of services are out there in number. You'd probably do better with self promotion and get to keep all the profits if that's what you're looking for.
A piece of advice would be to register with ASCAP, BMI or SESAC just to help monitor play and collect license fees if it should come to that.

Good luck,

Steve

Here's some advice: The first line of your song should be a question, and the rest of the lyrics should respond to that question.

Millions of people believe they have what it takes to become a famous singer. For you to break through, you will need more than just talent. You will need patience, dedication and perhaps even a little luck. Give yourself a chance by taking the right steps to get ahead.

1. Try out for "American Idol"
This may be the long shot, but others have tried and succeeded, so why not you? Find out when the show is going on the road to audition talent, and arrive plenty early.

2. Try a Talent Agency
Seek out talent agencies or a singing agent, and find out which ones are willing to take a look at new talent. Talent Box provides an online resource with a wide variety of agents seeking musically qualified new artists.

3.Try acting and singing
Try acting and singing in new media formats, such as Youtube. To stand out, you must be creative in these videos. Get friends together to create a web series to showcase your talent

4. make sure you love singing and acting as an art form, and that you are not solely in it for the fame and money.

5. Take voice lessons. Lessons are great for novice singers to learn proper singing practices, as well as for experienced singers who wish to further develop their technique
